Good recovery from Australia........

OK. There is a bit in the pitch from what I could see however nice recovery from Australia to end up close to 3/100. Watson is particular looked very strong which is a good sign.

In terms of the bowlers:
  • Jimmy Anderson - absolutely sensational bowling again. Good movement to get both Ponting & Clarke this morning.
  • Stuart Broad - started well in troubling the batsmen, however then again bowled too short. He needs to sort his shit out on line & length
  • Graeme Swan - bowled OK however does not yet to be troubling Australia too much.
  • Steven Finn - bowled poorly and too short and was hit all over the place.

I still maintain England are a bowler short. If you compare Australia's top 5 to Englands top 5 bowlers then see below as the 5th bowler even things up somewhat.

Head to head - Bowling Attack
Anderson v Bollinger - Anderson (just)
Siddle v Broad - Siddle (generally I would say Broad though)
Swan v Doherty - Swan
Finn v Harris - Not sure yet (I expect Harris to be good though)
Collingwood v Watson - Watson

So in summary that is 2 1/2 each, however you would expect the 5th bowlers not to bowl as much. So England maybe shade them....just.

I agree that the bowlers are about even, but now put that up against who they are bowling to. I reckon even the Aussie bowlers would rather bowl at their batters right now!

We really need to decide tomorrow if Bollinger and Harris are any good, they're definitely not in the team for their batting that's for sure!

Always hard to judge until England bat. When you lose wickets in clusters it is difficult.

I think the score could of been much worse.

Australia as mentioned need to accept (and currently they are not) they are in transition mode, and that means trailling players until they get the right fit.

There are plenty of opportunities for players in Australian domestic cricket just now - time to put your hand up boys.

They've been in transition for some time now. Since Warne retired, Australia have tried something in the region of 12 or 13 spinners. I know he'll never be replaced and will quite rightly have legendary status, but someone needs a longer spell at the job than the time they are currently given. Regarding Johnson and his omission from the team - didn't he take 5 wickets two or three games ago? I predict that Australia will languish in their current world ranking position for some time to come. Woopee.....

Johnson will be back - he simply looks out of touch. Regarding rankings - no doubt they will languish for a while until they find new players.

Cricket is a mass sport in Australia. It is not like Rugby Union etc - so they will recover quickly.
